CANARINA CANARIENSIS

This astonishing plant carries very large pale orange bells beautifully veined in crimson and positively takes your breath away - it's that exotic looking! Probably best for conservatories where it needs a winter temperature of 50 F - quite cool - but what a reward. 4-5'. HHP/Cl.

The Canary Island Bellflower, Canarina canariensis, is a fast growing, climbing plant that grows from a tuber and can reach 2 – 3 metres in height when provided with a support to scramble over. It normally grows in forested areas, so protection from very hot sun in summer will prevent the tubers form drying out. It prefers a sunny, sheltered position in a humus rich well drained soil and requires protection from frost.

Sow the seeds in the Spring, covering them thinly and place in good light with a temperature of 60-68F (15-20C). Germination can be erratic and so if no germination occurs put the pot in a cool place until the following spring when germination should occur.

Prick out into 3” pots and grow on before transplanting into a large container or sheltered position outdoors offering climbing support. Protection from freezing conditions is necessary during the winter.
